Is green building just another buzzword? Here’s how eco-friendly techniques are helping builders like us, make better homes for you.
LUMBER
In green building, we use a lot of engineered wood products instead of traditional lumber. Nowadays, the floor joists, OSB sheathing, and roof trusses in Bielinski homes are all engineered wood. Engineered wood has equal or greater structural stability, while cutting waste by using up to 50% less wood fiber than dimensional lumber.
EFFICIENCY
Another benefit of green building practices is the ability to provide energy efficiency, something you won’t find in many older, used homes. We use Energy Star rated HVAC systems, Tyvek® house wrap, R-21 high density batt insulation and perform a Blower Door Test in every home to detect air leaks and drafts. If detected, we take the necessary steps to fix the issue. Steps like these are why our energy auditor estimates that our homes performed 30.9% better in 2018 than homes just constructed to Wisconsin code. You can’t find that kind of energy efficiency in older, used homes, which is one reason that many customers are choosing to build new homes and choosing to build with Bielinski.
CUSTOMER NEEDS
More and more customers are making ecologically conscious building decisions. There’s an expectation for homes to be eco-friendly and energy-efficient. In the past, price, quality, and location were the main factors in building decisions, but now green building and energy efficiency are also an influence. That’s why it’s important for us to stay on top of the latest green building trends. Bielinski Homes is an official Focus on Energy builder, and every home is a certified Green Built Home.
Staying ahead of the curve is what has made us so successful for nearly 60 years, and going green has been no exception. You can expect us to continue to make our homes more sustainable and energy-efficient as the technology improves. If you’re looking for your next green home, start looking right here.
