Top 3 Interior Home Design Trends for the New Year

By Rebecca Wardon, Interior Design Manager

Last month we discussed new exterior home design trends for 2021. This month we’re bringing it inside. Here are some of the colors, materials, and styles that are trending this year in interior design.

HELLO, DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND

If you read our aforementioned exterior design blog, this might sound familiar to you, but the bright new interior trend in 2021 is actually going dark.

Just take a look at Sherwin Williams’ 2021 color of the year, Urbane Bronze. This color is a dark and warm neutral that offers the “simple sophistication every space is searching for,” according to the manufacturer. It’s a color that adds sophisticated tranquility, and we all need a little tranquility these days.

And if that isn’t dark enough for you, we’re also seeing plenty of black wood tone cabinets, black accents, and even black countertops! (Keep your eyes peeled for this year’s parade home if that intrigues you…)

BACK TO NATURE

Sometimes the best looks for inside your home can come from outside the home. Natural elements are showing up everywhere in 2021. Maybe that’s because we’ve all been spending a lot more time indoors and need that connection to the outside world, or maybe it’s just an easy way to simplify in a crazy world. Either way, it looks great and feels even better.

Natural elements often show up as wood grains in hardwood or luxury vinyl plank flooring, open wood shelving, house plants, and organic colors like, you guessed it, green. Whether it’s emerald green, gray-green, forest green, or any other green you can think of, we’re seeing it pop up more and more in backsplashes, on walls and in accessories.

Natural elements bring a refreshing look to your home and connect you back to nature.

FIND SANCTUARY

Really interior design in 2021 boils down to one thing: creating a space for you to feel safe, comfortable, and happy – a sanctuary. Calming dark tones and refreshing natural elements are two great ways to accomplish this and that’s why they’ve become so popular.

But at the end of the day, it’s your sanctuary. So think about what your zen is. Maybe it’s a meaningful piece of furniture that you want to design around or a favorite color. Find what makes you really feel at home, and go for it.

If you’re looking to build your own sanctuary, talk to a Bielinski New Home Consultant today.
