4 Perfect Playroom Tips
Ah, to be a kid. Legos. Action figures. Dollhouses. Is there anything better than playtime? Here are four tips about creating the perfect playroom.
1. THINK YOU HAVE ENOUGH STORAGE? THINK AGAIN!
If you think a closet and a couple bins are gonna cut it, you’re dead wrong.
The problem with playroom storage is that it has to be safely accessible for wee ones. That means no tall shelving units and no heavy cabinets.
A wonderful way to keep things tidy and kid-friendly is by using wicker baskets to store and organize toys, games, etc. Baskets are lightweight and easily moved, making clean up time a breeze.
Since you can’t get very vertical with your storage you might have to get creative. Making storage areas that double as benches or tables is another great simple storage solution.
2. KEEP YOUR KIDS CLOSE (WHILE YOU STILL CAN)
Sooner rather than later your kids are going to want more and more time alone. But for now, they probably want to spend as much time hanging with their parents as possible. Take advantage of that.
Think about adult areas that can be set up near a play space. A home office. A workout area. A laundry room. Somewhere you can get your parent stuff done while interacting with and keeping an eye over your kids.
Then just take a deep breath and enjoy it before they become teenagers.
3. THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET REAL DIRTY
Accidents are bound to happen. So make sure your floors are both durable and cleanable. If you want to be extra sure your beautiful floors aren’t the victim of your beautiful children, then a large area rug is the perfect way to protect your hardwood or carpeting.
And remember to keep a dust buster on hand for quick cleanups. And keep your deep (dangerous) cleaners somewhere else in the house in an carrying caddy inaccessible to tiny hands.
4. IT’S ABOUT THE KIDS
If you’re like us, you see a lot of crazy, extravagant rooms on Pinterest, or Facebook, or HGTV. And if you’re like us, you want every single one of those in your home.
But when it comes to the playroom, it’s not about your great taste. It’s about your kids having fun, and learning valuable cognitive and social skills.
So as much as you’d like a room worthy of a thousand likes, make sure it’s first and foremost goal is creating a fun, creative, safe, loving place for your kids to play.
