All About the 2022 Color of the Year
By Mandy Urban, Design Studio Manager
It’s become an annual tradition for us to check out the color of the year and give you our thoughts on the choice and how it can be used in your home. This year’s choice by Sherwin Williams is Evergreen Fog, a light, neutral green that continues the trend of serenity through design.
WHY EVERGREEN FOG?
If there’s one thing we learned in 2021, it’s that the world isn’t getting any less crazy. Folks have had to ask more of their homes as remote work has continued for many. And as the world seems to get wilder and wilder, people need to find a sense of calm. That’s where a color like Evergreen Fog can shine. It’s just colorful enough to make a statement yet subtle enough to make any room calmer and more collected. It’s not in your face, but it doesn’t disappear. It’s sophisticated, serene, and suitable in a variety of spaces and styles.
WHERE TO USE IT
As a subtle neutral, there aren’t many places where Evergreen Fog wouldn’t work. But it’s important to remember that wherever you use it, the color is the star. It’s not an in-your-face choice, but it has enough character that it deserves to make its own statement.
It would be easy to see Evergreen Fog in a powder room, and easy to implement as well. But where I really think Evergreen Fog could work perfectly is in an entryway. Bring in some natural baskets, a small bench, and a mirror to reflect some light and brighten the space. Your entryway sets the tone for people entering your home, and Evergreen Fog is a great way to say, “This is a safe, comfortable place.”
HOW TO USE IT
There are a couple of interesting ways you can bring Evergreen Fog into your home. The first is a softer, more natural direction. The second is a more modern style.
-
SOFT: Go softer by pairing Evergreen Fog with lighter natural wood tones, whites, organic shapes, and florals. Wicker furniture and décor are becoming more popular and could work really well in this style. This would be perfect in a nursery.
-
MODERN: Go modern by pairing Evergreen Fog with warmer natural wood tones, blacks, sharp edges, and metals. A darker oak would be the perfect wood tone for this style. This look would be great in a home office.
