1. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?

Experience is a home builder’s greatest tool. And longevity in the business means a few things for you.
First: the longer a builder has existed, the better their relationships will be with local contractors and suppliers. That means great work, using great materials, at great prices.
Second: no matter how unique a problem is, a veteran builder has most likely dealt with similar projects and knows just the right way to attack it.
And, third: a builder that has been around for a while will continue to be around even after construction is complete. Which is perfect for warranty items, new projects, or even just reaching out if you have any questions.


2. HOW ARE YOUR HOMES CONSTRUCTED?

This is a question that often goes unasked, especially by first-time home buyers. And we don’t blame them! It seems pretty logical to believe that all home builders are using the latest and greatest techniques. But, unfortunately, some builders these days are hiding lazy and out-of-date methods behind fancy facades.
Make sure you’re asking potential builders about their construction philosophy, so you know exactly why they do what they do.
This question is also a good barometer to see if you and your builder can successfully communicate throughout the building process. They should be able to easily and concisely explain their philosophy, and walk you through the process. If a home builder can check all these boxes, you’re on your way to making the right choice.


3. WHAT COSTS CAN I EXPECT?

Now, this one might sound obvious, but there’s a bit of nuance to it. Comparing two prices can be like comparing apples to oranges. One builder’s quote might be cheap, but are their homes built to last? Or maybe things normally included are considered ‘upgrades.’ There are a lot of corners that builders will cut to artificially lower prices, only to nail you with unexpected expenses halfway through building your home.
Make sure potential builders are upfront and honest about pricing. An honest builder will make your entire home building experience easy and stress-free.
