What Would I Bring to a Desert Island?
By Paul Bielinski
It’s the age old icebreaker. If you were marooned on a desert island, what would you bring to help survive or just pass the time? Well here are my answers.
MY DOGS
There are few things in life I love more than my dogs, Lucy and Angel. Lucy is a Boston Terrier and Angel is a Bichon Frise. They’re smaller dogs, so on the island they’d provide a moral support more than anything. Maybe their instincts would kick in and they’d become little hunters, though it’s tough to imagine a 10-pound Bichon hunting anything. Really I’d just want Lucy and Angel around to keep me from going insane alone on an island.
CHEF’S KNIFE
I’m a self-proclaimed foodie, so most of my desert island necessities are going to be food related. A chef’s knife isn’t only good for cooking prep, it would also be helpful for harvesting food and materials. In the kitchen, a chef’s knife is always my number one most important cooking tool. If I can’t live without it in my normal life, there’s no way I can live without it on a desert island.
GAS FIREPLACE
Who wants to spend ten minutes rubbing sticks together when you can just flip a switch? Instant fire would be a total game changer. It’s a source of heat at night and it’s a place to cook food. Survival would be impossible without fire, and a gas fireplace would be an easy and quick source, provided I can find a gas main...
I’d rather not worry about finding food and making shelter on a desert island and get back to cooking meals and building homes right here in southeastern Wisconsin. For Bielinski homes with way more amenities than a desert island,
