Man Caves & Home Bars

There was a time when men actually lived in caves. This is not a blog about that. Here are three tips for making the most of your Man Cave.

1. WHAT DOES MAN CAVE MEAN TO YOU?

The first step in creating a great Man Cave is defining what “Man Cave” means to you. Is it a solitary place of quiet contemplation? Is it a shrine to your favorite hobby? Is it a place to R-E-L-A-X with some friends and watch the Packers on their road to yet another NFC North title?

A single Man Cave can serve multiple purposes, but deciding on a general plan of action for the room will help when it comes time to decide on layout and decoration. Which leads us right to step two.

2. WHAT ARE THE ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS?

Now that you’ve picked a general theme, it’s time to get a little more specific.

What if there are two big games on at the same time? Maybe one television isn’t enough. Do you prefer to do your reading with a drink in hand? A bar might be exactly what your Man Cave needs. Like to shoot pool or throw darts with your friends? Make sure you’ve got the space for a table and a board.

By identifying the essential ingredients for your private space you’ll be able to make sure your future Man Cave is exactly what you want.

3. HOW WILL YOU MARK YOUR TERRITORY?

It’s time to break the rules.

Clutter the walls with sports memorabilia, and show off your bowling trophies. The Man Cave is a great room to showcase movie posters, album art, or pictures from your annual fishing trip.

It might not match the style of the rest of your home, but that’s the point. This is a getaway room, and it’s important to get away from decorative cohesion to make that feeling come to life.
