Every year, we push the envelope with our entry into the MBA Parade of Homes. This year, we might have pushed it further than ever before. In anticipation of the event, I wanted to give you all a sneak peek of what we’ve been so passionately working on. Here are just some of the highlights of our model home for the 2024 Parade of Homes.
INHALE AND EXHALE
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk up to our 2024 Parade of Homes entry is the exterior color: a gray with brown and green undertones. It’s moody. It’s complex. It’s intriguing. Paired with vertical siding, clear, gridless windows, and a black roof, this home will stop you in your tracks as soon as you see it. And that was the thinking behind a lot of our choices for our MBA Parade of Homes model this year. We wanted to make visual statements through bold, unforgettable design choices.
But there had to be a counterpoint. Even bold choices become boring without juxtaposition. For every inhale there has to be an exhale. It’s a design philosophy subscribed to by greats like Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright was famous for his use of compression and release in his homes. For instance, he often created low-ceiling, narrow hallways leading into airy, expansive spaces.
When you come tour our 2024 Parade of Homes model, you’ll experience this contrast as soon as you walk in the door. The dark exterior is the inhale — the open, two-story gathering room is the exhale.
FINDING BALANCE
Oftentimes, bold design choices inherently create an imbalance due to their singularity. But, by creating these moments of juxtaposition, we can maintain balance while still making daring decisions.
For our 2024 Parade of Homes model, the statement fireplace is a great example. In the two-story gathering room, the fireplace is impossible to miss, and the geometric, wood-slat façade could easily overtake a lesser room. However, by flanking the fireplace with a snakeskin wallpaper, we counter that rigid geometry and impart a flowing sense of nature, returning the room to balance once again.
These moments draw you through the home. Darkness leads to light. Clean, mid-century lines pair with joyous, organic shapes. Modern style sits side-by-side with vintage inspiration.
BUILT FOR LIFE
We didn’t only create a visually stunning home for this year’s MBA Parade of Homes, we created a home that suits modern life. Because even the most impeccably styled homes still need to feel comfortable. When you visit, be sure to check out the mudroom with its vintage-inspired flooring and wallpapered bench seating. Don’t miss the home office built for the age of hybrid-remote work. Seek out the lower-level workout room with its juice bar. And imagine how you would use the flexible upstairs game room in the loft. Soon you will get the chance to experience this yourself in our stunning MBA Parade of Homes 2024 model.
Sometimes the smaller details can make the greatest difference. As a passionate home cook myself, I wanted to create a kitchen that works with you. You’ll notice shelving at arm’s reach to house things like oils, salt, and other common items you’re constantly using while cooking. Just a small choice like that can turn a beautiful house into a home that’s built for you and your life.
It was a true team effort to create this year’s MBA Parade of Homes model. Everyone inspired and challenged each other to raise the bar. We’re so proud of the final product, and we can’t wait for you to see it.
