The Making of a Homemade Floor Plan (Pt. 1)

One of the many things that sets Bielinski Homes apart from the competition is our homemade floor plans. But what exactly does that mean for you? We’ll be checking out how we make our homemade floor plans in this Floor Plan Friday blog series, but first, let’s learn a little more about the basics.

WHAT IS A HOMEMADE FLOOR PLAN?

Often, builders will purchase floor plans from large national companies. Not us. We employ an architectural staff, headed by Frank Bielinski, who make our floor plans right here at Bielinski Homes. Every single floor plan we offer is an original creation.

WHAT’S THE BENEFIT OF A HOMEMADE FLOOR PLAN?

Our floor plans are created by Wisconsinites, for Wisconsinites. We understand how homes need to be built in order to last in a cold-weather market. Many purchased floor plans aren’t designed with colder climates in mind. For instance, they might have a bathroom over an unconditioned part of the home, like the garage, creating a high risk of frozen pipes in the winter. You don’t have to worry about issues like that with homemade floor plans. We also know which materials to use and how to use them efficiently, creating less waste and higher yield. Building efficiently following a homemade floor plan creates more value for our customers compared to purchased plans, which don’t always take material usage into consideration, inflating prices.

IS IT COMMON FOR BUILDERS TO USE HOMEMADE PLANS?

Some builders design their own plans, some builders purchase them from outside sources, but not many can say they’ve always used homemade floor plans. That’s something we’re proud of.

WHY DID BIELINSKI START DESIGNING HOMEMADE PLANS?

It wasn’t a decision we made, we’ve just always done it this way. Ever since we started building homes almost 60 years ago, we’ve been designing homemade floor plans. The plans have evolved a lot, and will continue to evolve as the needs of Wisconsin homeowners change, but our floor plans will always be homemade. If you’re looking to build a new home, make sure to ask where the designs are coming from, and to see our homemade floor plans, click here.
