Is Your Home Making You Sneeze?

It’s allergy season. But don’t just blame the pollen for your “achoos,” your home might be one of the culprits. Here are some ways to kiss your gesundheits goodbye.

CHANGE YOUR FILTERS

An easy way to make sure the air in your home remains clean and dust-free is regularly replacing air filters in the home. I change my filters twice a year, when it goes hot to cold and when it goes cold to hot. Some homeowners prefer to change their filters more frequently, and that surely won’t hurt anything but your wallet (those filters can be expensive!). Clean filters = clean air, it’s as simple as that.

CLEAN YOUR AIR DUCTS

Even if you’re the most responsible filter-replacer around, your air ducts will slowly collect dust and buildup over time. Air duct cleaning frequency depends on each household, though most professionals recommend it should be done every 1-2 years. Not only will cleaning out your air ducts improve air quality in your home, but it will help your HVAC system run smoothly, avoiding breakdowns and costly repairs.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR CARPETS

Or get rid of them entirely! We’re going sans carpets in our new home. With two dogs running around hardwood or LVP is so much easier to maintain. If you do have carpeting in your home, make sure that you’re regularly vacuuming, and taking time to do a deep clean every other month. Carpet is warm and soft and wonderful, but will trap dirt, hair, and dust like there’s no tomorrow. So keep on top of your carpet maintenance! Take care of your home, and it will take care of you.
