How to Use Matte Black in Your Home

It’s a new month, and that means a new home inspo blog! We’re back with Bielinski Homes designer Rebecca Wardon, and she’s filling us in on the darker side of style: matte black.

Matte black sounds like it can be a little overwhelming, how can you easily incorporate such a strong look into a home?

When using really intense colors and finishes, like matte black, it’s important to keep it simple, because a little bit goes a long way. A great way to easily incorporate a matte black finish is as an accent. Hardware, faucets, and other similar accessories are perfect ways to bring this style into your home without overpowering the rest of your home.

Which rooms are the best for using matte black?

Rooms where you have a lot of fixtures and hardware, like the kitchen and the bathroom, are generally the best locations for featuring matte black, but spreading the look throughout your home can look great, especially in an open-concept plan.

This trend seems so contemporary, can it succeed alongside more classical styles?

Matte black really does lend itself to modern and contemporary styles easily, but don’t shy away if your home has a different feel. I’ve seen matte black look amazing in farmhouse styles, eclectic styles, you name it.

How much is too much?

Consistency is key. So don’t be afraid of diving in. Matte black faucets, cabinet hardware, light fixtures, and accessories will look great when used together. And remember that underuse is just as bad as overuse. Having a matte black faucet be the only piece in your home will look out of place. For more color inspo from Rebecca, click here.
