Dread cleaning? Make it easier by staying organized all year long. Here are four home organization hacks.
1. GET IT OFF THE COUNTER
Your poor counter. The once majestic centerpiece of your kitchen. Now covered in junk mail, school projects, and magazines. Restore your counter to its previous glory, and keep it that way. Designating a space as your home command center will help establish good habits and clear up your kitchen in no time.
2. PUT IT ON THE WALL
Stop thinking horizontally, start thinking vertically. By using wall space more efficiently, you’ll clear clutter off of surfaces. Go for wall-mounted cubbies in the mud room, hanging shoe racks in the hallways, and places to store your keys, hats, coats, and anything else that usually ends up on the floor or on the back of a chair, and your life will get easier. We promise.
3. PASS IT ON
For you parents with younger kids out there, turn organization into an early habit by making it interactive. Use visual labels to indicate what goes where in a clear, understandable way. And don’t be afraid to show them how it’s done. Showing that organization isn’t a tedious, horrible task (though it may seem) is important to creating good habits early that will help your kids (and you) throughout your lives.
4. KEEP IT UP
Not giving up is the hardest thing about keeping a home organized. Remember that the goal of getting organized is to make your life easier, and if the opposite is happening, take a look at your process and make the necessary changes. We’ve got plenty of ideas to get you started right here on our blog.
