Design Trends (PT. 1) Exteriors

You can never make a second first impression, and the exterior is how the eyes of the world first see your home. It’s important to make the right choice when it comes to exterior home styling, and we’re here to help.

The all-American farmhouse is making a modern comeback. Americana and Modern Farmhouse design are styles that harken back to a simpler time. These styles are accented by vertical siding and simple window grid patterns. The modern flair comes from wood grain garage doors and updated window frames and grills in a variety of colors like the traditional white or a stylish black.

This style takes the traditional Prairie style and adds a few contemporary twists, like vertical stone elements combined with horizontal panels and grid-less casement windows. Sometimes you’ll even see horizontal stacked windows at the garage and front door. It’s clean, it’s streamlined, and it’s trending.

Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary. You take a traditional style and introduce modern elements. For instance, we’ve taken our traditional French Country designs and straightened the lines for a much more modern look. We also introduced an adventurous color palette that uses combinations that you wouldn’t traditionally see in an older French Country style home.

Color! Back in the 2000s most new homes were a variety of beige. Then the 2010s brought us a lot of grays. Now, as we enter the 2020s, we’re seeing bold palettes moving to the outside of the home. Daring reds, blues, and greens are taking a more prominent role in home exteriors, as well as darker, richer hues and even whites.

I believe these updated styles are trending because people want tradition in their lives, just delivered in a modern way. Each of these hip styles provides exactly that; they’re familiar but new. If you’re looking for just that, we can help. Contact one of our New Home Consultants today.
